DR. LANA ANSWERS
You asked, I answered. Be sure to come back to this space often as I’ll be regularly sharing my answers to the most commonly asked questions!
1. What is the right age to start doing botox?
There is no right or wrong time to start doing botox or any cosmetic treatment. My advice is that when you find yourself bothered by that pesky forehead line or only see your crow's feet when you look at your photos then thats the best time to come in so that we can address it! There is an argument to made for "preventative" botox which means starting botox BEFORE the lines have become etched into the skin. Preventing a line from appearing is much easier than erasing a deep wrinkle, but I can help in both scenarios. So when it comes to botox, I tell my patients its a personal choice.
2. What is a consultation with you like?
My consultation always starts with me asking you to look into the mirror and tell me what you hope to address. My focus is always on your concerns and your goals. Once I have an understanding of what bothers you, I create a customized treatment plan with options to address your concerns that make sense for your lifestyle and budget. Everything about your consultation is unique to you.
3. Do you see medical dermatology patients, or just cosmetic?
As an American Board Certified Dermatologist, I see both medical and cosmetic patients, men and women, and even children! I am trained to treat all diseases of the hair, skin, and nails!
4. Will I have a bruise after my injectable treatment?
Any time there is a needle in the skin there is always a chance of having a small bruise, so plan accordingly. No injectables the day before a big event! If you do get a bruise, it is usually easy to cover with makeup and I have some tricks for making it go away faster, but generally a bruise will last between 3-7 days.
5. What's the difference between botox and fillers?
Botox is a medicine that limits the movement of muscles and so we use it to address lines that come from expressions, like smiling or frowning. Fillers are a category of gels (usually made of hyaluronic acid) that take up space and so we use them to lift and support the skin that may be sagging or falling. We can also use injectable fillers to enhance contours in the cheeks and jawline, and augment the lips or the chin.
6. Will I ever get rid of my acne scars?
Scars are hard and there is no eraser for acne scars to remove them 100%, but the good news is we have many different options for treating them. My goal for scars is to make them 80-90% better. They always require multiple sessions, so be patient! But with a little time and effort, we can make them look almost invisible!
7. I have terrible acne, do I have to go on Isotretinoin (Roaccutane, Accutane)?
Not necessarily! I have many treatment options for acne, isotretinoin is just one of them! Your skin care and treatment should be like YOU, totally unique! During your consultation, I will examine your skin and understand your needs and then offer you treatment options that are most suitable for you.
8. I want to try fillers, but am scared that I will look puffy or overdone. Does it have to be so extreme?
NO! I specialize in using injectable fillers in a way that looks so natural, they are literally imperceptible. People won't be able to tell what has changed exactly, they'll just notice that you look fresher.
